Description
Bhuj
A Bhuj is a rare early 19th-century weapon from northwest India, also known as kuttai or elephant knife. It is commonly called an axe-knife because the blade is fixed onto an axe-like haft. The Bhuj is short, broad, stout, and heavy, blade with a mild curve. The weapon takes its name from the city of Bhuj in the Kutch district of the state of Gujarat, it is also similar to the Punjabi weapon (Gandasa or the Glaive). The shaft is also hand engraved in a spiral pattern adding an immense beauty to the weapon. The pommel and the elephant head are made of brass with a hidden weapon inside. The blade is hand-engraved in a floral pattern in ‘Da Uthal’ format. An extremely outstanding weapon was used in the Kutch area of Gujarat in India.
